Chief Warrant Officer Five (CW5) Derrick Edwards serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Senior Technical Advisor to the Army Chief Information Officer (CIO)/G-6. As the CTO and Senior Technical Advisor, CW5 Edwards reports directly to the Army CIO/G-6. He assists in establishing and directing strategy, policy, guidance, planning, and functional proponency for Army worldwide current and future Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) and Information Technology (IT) support during peacetime, crises, contingencies and war.

CW5 Edwards enlisted in the United States Army in 1991, progressed through the enlisted ranks to Staff Sergeant and was selected to serve as a Warrant Officer (Tactical Automated Network Technician) in 1998. He completed the Warrant Officer Candidate School and appointed a Warrant Officer One in 1999. He was immediately assigned as Message Switch Officer in Charge in the 327th Signal Battalion (Airborne) and Battalion Network Management Technician in the 50th Signal Battalion (Corps, Forced Entry, Airborne), both in the 35th Signal Brigade (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In 2002, he was assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia as the Automation and COMSEC Officer in the 75th Ranger Regiment during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. In 2006, he served as a Network Engineer in the globally deployed 1st Joint Communications Squadron, Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE), deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn and Enduring Freedom. He served in the Pentagon as the Senior Technical Advisor to the LandWarNet / Mission Command Director in the Department of the Army G-3/5/7 from 2010- 2013. From 2013-14, he was assigned as the 11th Signal Brigade (Theater) (Tactical) Senior Network Operations Technician where he was the senior technical and Warrant Officer Adviser to the Brigade Commander. He most recently served as the Senior Network Operations Technician to the III Corps G6 at Fort Hood, Texas.

CW5 Edwards is a graduate of the Basic and Advanced Airborne Courses and all levels of the Warrant Officer Education System. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies and an MBA, both from Grantham University in Kansas City, MO.
