AT&T creates global public sector unit, merging two existing business lines
AT&T launched its new Global Public Sector organization on Monday, just days after news broke that the company was selected to build the first nationwide wireless broadband network for first responders.
In this new unit, AT&T is consolidating two groups: one that focused on the company’s federal government business, and another that handled its state, local and education business. Kay Kapoor, who has been heading up AT&T’s federal business, will be the new organization’s president, according to the company’s announcement.
“This is an important focus area for AT&T,” said Kapoor in a statement. “Our public sector and education customers are a top priority. By bringing all public sector teams together, we can improve the value and partnership we offer to these customers.”
AT&T had nearly $15 billion in public sector sales in 2016, according to a news release.
In the role, Kapoor will also continue to oversee the company’s public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority, known as FirstNet.
Kapoor was named one of FedScoop’s 2017 Top Women in Technology.
