Following a kickoff celebration this weekend, spring’s biggest event, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, is in swing with its first full week of activities.

Take advantage of the cool winds still blowing through Washington and go fly a kite! At the Corcoran Gallery of Art, you can make your own kite to fly in the Blossom Kite Festival happening this weekend on the Mall.
March 30 – Beyond the Tidal Basin Tram Tour
While the tourists hang out with Thomas Jefferson, head up to the National Arboretum for an expert-guided tour of Tidal Basin tree clones. There, you can enjoy the same pink blooms without the giant crowds, plus gain tips on how to grown your own cherry trees.
April 3 – Lecture by Ms. Ann McClellan
Spend lunch with the first lady of the cherry trees, Ann McClellan. She’s authored two books on the festival, and is a renowned expert on the cherry blossom tree gift from the city of Tokyo to Washington, D.C. Her afternoon lecture at the Library of Congress is free.
April 5 – Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival
After a day filled with food trucks, a beer garden, live music and kids’ events, a free fireworks show will light up the sky along the Southwest Waterfront
April 10 – Macy’s Spring Secret Garden Fashion Show
Pantone may have declared hues of purple as the color of the season, but we predict plenty of blush tones on the runway at the Spring Secret Garden Fashion Show. TV personality Courtney Kerr, star of the reality show “Courtney Loves Dallas,” will host the event, which will showcase spring trends and offer tips on how to incorporate pink into your wardrobe.
Aaron Carter, Regina Belle and Brandon James from “America’s Got Talent” are among the performers who will march in one of the city’s largest spectator events — the annual Cherry Blossom parade! Floats, music and elaborate costumes will close out the city’s celebration of spring.
