Beth Killoran

Chief Information Officer, Department of Health and Human Services

Like most federal CIOs, Beth Killoran is looking for ways to fill crucial IT jobs. She’s also making measurable strides toward that goal. At the inaugural CIO Council jobs fair in November, HHS was among the most active in hiring. The department — one of the largest and most complex in government — has established IT career paths based on the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education’s Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, with the intent of recruiting a “new generation” of professionals, Killoran said. “My proudest achievement over the past year is the championing the advancement of the IT workforce,” Killoran told FedScoop. The process ins’t just paying off for HHS. “OPM is now working to implement our best practices across the federal government,” Killoran said.
