CIO.gov Launches Tools for Following 25 Point Plan

There are two new tools on CIO.gov to track the government’s progress in implementing OMB’s 25 Point Plan to Reform IT.

First, there is a map that tracks the process of the federal governments data center consolidation initiative. The map shows the locations of the closed or planned closed data centers and information on each such as address, date range to be closed and the agency or department that uses it.

The federal government plans to close 137 of its more than 2,100 data centers this calendar year and close 800 (a roughly 40% total) by the end of the FY15.

The second, a cloud migration list, announces three services each Federal CIO Council agency will move to the cloud by June of next year. The Federal Cloud Computing Strategy published in February outlines how the government intends to accelerate the safe and secure migration of these services.
