With sequestration and the “fiscal cliff” looming, there’s been a lot of talk about how the Department of Defense should spend its defense resources.

Now, a group of citizens on the White House online “We the People” petition site have a solution: Build a Death Star.

The petitioners call for the U.S. government to secure resources and funding for a Death Star and begin construction by 2016. For those who have never watched Star Wars, the Death Star is a large space station with the ability to blow up an entire planet in one shot.

“By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense,” the petition states.

The petition has surpassed the 25,000-signature barrier, making it eligible for an official White House response.
