The Data in Action Virtual Summit featured government’s most influential and data-minded IT leaders who discussed the importance of enterprise data management, the explosion of the chief data officer role in government agencies, how organizations can comply with new requirements for their data and the role data plays in the technology of tomorrow.

Maria Roat, Federal Deputy CIO, kicked off the impressive lineup of speakers with an update on the Federal Data Strategy and lessons learned in year one implementing the strategy’s action plan. Kshemendra Paul, CDO & Executive Director, Data Governance & Analytics with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs provided an insider’s perspective on the VA’s data strategy while Preston Werntz, CISA’s CDO, Dr. Dr. Kathleen Kaplan, FEMA’s CDO and Jamal El-Hindi, Interim CDO with Dept. of Treasury touched upon how their agencies are coordinating and sharing data, both internally and externally. And, to close out a morning of important conversations and content, new DOD CDO David Spirk discussed the Pentagon’s development of a joint data strategy and how it will improve the military services’ ability to use operational data to make unified decisions that impact the entire defense enterprise.
