GSA Suspends Agency-Funded Travel for Conferences

The General Services Administration is suspending all travel for internal agency meetings, training, conferences, seminars or leadership and management events, whether paid for by the government or another entity.

Acting Administrator Dan Tangherlini notified GSA employees via email on Monday.

During this period of hiatus, conferences with the primary purpose of expanding or advancing the services of GSA, its customers, client-related or project-related functions may be permitted to go forward after an approved business justification and conference budget, the email said.

These conferences must be approved by the Head of Service or Staff Office, Regional Administrator, and the Chief Administrative Services Officer and the Chief Financial Officer before any procurement activity takes place or cost is incurred by the organization sponsoring the event, Tangerhlini wrote.
