The Department of Justice is looking for a few good minds to help boost its IT services.
Last week, the department announced the debut of its Distinguished IT Fellows program, aimed at recruiting IT professionals from the public sector to improve existing technology as well as facilitate new forms of technology for the department to use.
The position, which will be housed in the department’s Justice Management division, will work with various CIOs across the department’s agencies as well as the overarching Justice Department CIO.
Applicants are asked to have specific expertise, including professional knowledge of IT design and development, analytical ability to analyze technical data, and the ability to provide technical, policy and programmatic guidance to senior level officials.
The position is slated for an appointment of one to two years, with the option to extend it for four total years.
DOJ is the latest of a growing number of departments developing their own in-house tech teams that rely heavily on public sector talent. Using the models created by the General Services Administration’s 18F and the U.S. Digital Service, the Defense Department, Commerce Department and Environmental Protection Agency have also created or are looking to create similar teams.
