It’s hard not to look at the above photo and think of Kramer from the legendary “Marine Biologist” episode driving golf balls into the bay. That’s Interior Communications Electrician 1st Class Floyd Watson swinging a gold club on the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), as part of a steel beach picnic. Makin Island and embarked Marines assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (11the MEU) are deployed supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
