A playbook for RPA

The federal Community of Practice for Robotic Process Automation published a playbook recently for agencies that are looking to start an RPA program or upgrade current services. Some of the top plays in the new document are establishing solid oversight and setting aggressive goals. “All agencies are charged with pursuing workload elimination, and RPA provides a low-cost tool to make an immediate impact,” Gerard Badorrek, community chairman, writes in the playbook. “The opportunity for RPA to transform federal operations is massive.” Dave Nyczepir has more from the playbook.

How to fix federal cyber reskilling

The Federal Cyber Reskilling Academy has yet to have any of the members from its first cohorts find a job in cybersecurity. The reason: The mid-career employees without an IT background who volunteered for the academy would have had to take a pay cut if they transitioned to a new cybersecurity job. In a monthly newsletter released this week, the U.S. Merit System Protection Board took aim at the “rigid” government pay system that it believes causes this and recommends some changes it thinks could help. Another CenturyLink EIS win

CenturyLink announced Wednesday that is has won another task order award under the General Services Administration's $50 billion Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract. This time, the Department of Defense Education Activity issued CenturyLink a $75 million task order to provide virtual private networking, internet, voice and video services. USDA’s Chad Sheridan leaving government

Chad Sheridan is leaving the Department of Agriculture at the end of the month after more than 25 years in government. Sheridan told FedScoop that it feels “bittersweet” to leave USDA but that he’s excited to take on a cross-agency perspective in his next role. Survey finds federal agencies are embracing zero-trust to strengthen security

Nearly half of federal government IT executives in a new survey said their agencies are moving away from traditional network perimeter defense tactics and taking steps to adopt identity-centered security strategies. Additionally, agencies that have developed strategies to meet FICAM policy requirements are also better positioned to improve their risk management and security posture, among other capabilities.
