Government needs to invest in AI assurance and 'sensemaking,' Sue Gordon says

The government isn't going to match the pace of the commercial sector in developing AI applications. But what it can do, according to Sue Gordon, is fill in the gaps that private industry might forget about. Gordon, the recently resigned principal deputy director of national intelligence, pointed specifically to the government investing in the assurance and security of AI. She also said it needs to move beyond finding known things in big data sets to actually making sense of changes and correlations. Billy Mitchell has the scoop.

Energy is using cyber risk assessments to make cloud decisions

The Department of Energy is ahead of the curve. DOE adopted the Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR) management framework and has begun initial, daily risk assessments at interested national laboratories, Emery Csulak, the department’s chief information security officer, told FedScoop.
