Michael Rigas claims acting Federal CIO role

The federal government has been without a Federal CIO since July when Suzette Kent stepped down from the role — or so we all thought. Apparently, Michael Rigas, the acting deputy director for management in the Office of Management and Budget, has been serving in the position in an acting capacity. He signed a memo extending Data Center Optimization Initiative requirements as acting Federal CIO on Friday. And according to his personal LinkedIn, he's been in the role since July. Dave Nyczepir has the story.

Delayed transition creates IT, cybersecurity risks for Biden team

As the Trump administration continues to stonewall President-elect Joe Biden's team from transition resources, experts are warning the situation could create IT risks such as insecure communication channels and increased cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Most notably, Biden’s team is still operating with a public .com domain for its website, rather than a more secure .gov domain. Former Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said it's "ironic that after all the complaining about Hillary Clinton using a private server to communicate on government business, the administration wouldn’t take the steps necessary to allow the president-elect and his team to have a government secure network for their government-related work." Sara Wilson has the story.
