'Finally building the internet in the Air Force'

The Air Force's Advanced Battle Management System has the lofty goal of connecting as many things as possible for the warfighter, whether it's existing Department of Defense technology and data, or information from outside of military networks. Will Roper, the service's assistant secretary for acquisition, technology and logistics, says the program isn't reinventing how users interact with such products, though. "It’s all the stuff that you know. There are no show-stoppers here," Roper says about the Air Force's plan for multi-domain operations. Billy Mitchell has more from Roper.

Census Bureau takes issue with an IG report

The Census Bureau will have a big bump in its workforce next year as it carries out its decennial responsibilities. As 2020 gets closer, the agency is ramping up the technology to make those hires, and a new alert from the Commerce Department's inspector general says the testing might have revealed some issues. In response, the bureau says the IG's alert is based on old information, and the recruiting system is on track for next year. Tajha Chappellet-Lanier explains the disagreement.

GSA keeps a close eye on feedback for beta.SAM.gov

The replacement for the outdated but familiar FedBizOpps site is generating a lot of user response, according to the General Services Administration, which is taking an iterative approach to a system that is a crucial link between contractors and federal agencies. About 200 comments are coming in daily through beta.SAM.gov's feedback tool, GSA says, as users figure out what might be missing and develop a sense of what other functions they would like to see on the site.
