Pentagon calls on Kratsios

Michael Kratsios has been tapped to pull double duty. In addition to serving as the U.S. CTO, Kratsios will become undersecretary of Defense for research and engineering. The role is essentially the Pentagon's version of department-level CTO, which Michael Griffin stepped down from suddenly late last month. “In seeking to fill this position we wanted someone with experience in identifying and developing new technologies and working closely with a wide range of industry partners,” Defense Secretary Mark Esper said in an announcement. “We think Michael is the right person for this job and we are excited to have him on the team.” Dave Nyczepir has the story.

Contractors that fail to accept the Mass Mod will have their offerings removed from GSA’s eTools platform, while those that have are already reaping the benefits, Salmoiraghi said. The deadline is July 31. More from Dave.

Getting more from AI and ML workloads with milCloud 2.0

DOD agencies and their partners can capitalize on the speed, scale and analytic power of the cloud to tackle artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads with milCloud 2.0. The fit-for-purpose cloud is helping defense agencies fast-track the use of AI and ML applications and sidesteps many of the costs associated with running workloads on commercial clouds, says GDIT’s Jeffrey Phelan. Those lower costs often make the difference on whether AI and ML projects move forward. Listen to the discussion.
