White House, DOD strike a deal on 5G spectrum

The White House and the Department of Defense announced a plan Monday to auction spectrum for the U.S.'s commercial development of 5G. Under the plan, the Federal Communications Commission will auction 100MHz of mid-band spectrum in the 3450-3550 range, on which the wireless industry can begin operating 5G networks by mid-2022. It's the fastest transfer of federal spectrum for commercial 5G wireless use in history, and it shouldn't impact critical military operations, according to officials. “[F]or the most part the spectrum will be available for commercial use without limits while simultaneously minimizing impact to DOD operations,” DOD CIO Dana Deasy said. Developing a strong identity strategy to better serve citizens

Federal agencies that manage public assistance programs need stronger identity proofing and authentication that can streamline, improve and proactively deliver services, says a LexisNexis Risk Solutions white paper. And as a result of the pandemic — and large-scale unemployment demands — citizen needs will continue to increase over the coming months. A strong identity management strategy can offer public service programs to those in need, while also cutting down on instances of fraud. Read the report.
