Connolly bashes Senate’s ‘short-sighted’ decision to kill TMF funding mid-pandemic

A day after learning that money for the Technology Modernization Fund was once again cut from the latest COVID-19 relief package, Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., blasted his Senate colleagues for their "short-sighted" decision to kill the funding. Connolly thought the House and Senate had reached a consensus agreement to fund the Technology Modernization Fund at around $5 billion or $6 billion — short of the proposed $9 billion. "[Y]ou would think that they were living on a different planet," he said. Dave Nyczepir has more from Connolly.

OMB nominee prioritizes federal IT, cybersecurity

Speaking of the TMF, President Biden's nominee to head the Office of Management and Budget advocated for the fund Tuesday as a critical mechanism to support federal technology and cybersecurity. During her Senate confirmation hearing, Neera Tanden pledged to make tech and cybersecurity top priorities if confirmed as director of OMB. “I think we all recognize that this is not just some far-off risk, it’s a real risk to the American public and their own data,” Tanden said. “And it is increasingly one that other countries are weaponizing. And so it is a high priority.” Billy Mitchell has the latest.


AI testing for all of DOD

The Pentagon's Joint Artificial Intelligence Center has developed a multiple-award contract to support AI testing and evaluation services across the Department of Defense. The contract’s design for whole-of-DOD use comes after the JAIC recently shifted its core mission away from building products and fielding AI to be an “enabling force” in support of the many offices across the DOD working on AI.
