Navy continues telework

Even though many service members have gotten a COVID-19 vaccine, the military services are still grappling with how much of their workforces to send back to the office. The Navy for one will continue to keep half of its forces working remotely, according to a new policy memo. "This update continues to build on what we have learned about combatting COVID-19 while still maximizing our operational readiness,” said Vice Adm. Phil Sawyer, the Navy’s operations chief in charge of coordinating the service’s response to COVID-19. “I expect we will continue to improve services available for our Sailors and their families while protecting the force as the number of personnel vaccinated grows. The key is for everyone that is eligible to get vaccinated.” Jackson Barnett has the story.

DHS to hire 200 cyber pros

The Department of Homeland Security is set to hire 200 new cybersecurity professionals by July as the Biden administration aims to curb ransomware attacks affecting U.S. corporations, as well as foreign espionage operations. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the cyber recruiting was part of “the most significant hiring initiative” that DHS has undertaken in its 18-year history. The White House's National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Office launched a central website for the government's AI activities this week. The website is part of the government’s push to increase transparency around every agencies’ work with cognitive technologies and develop trustworthy AI, where people believe in the reliability of the algorithms involved.
