The president and first lady will hit the lights on the National Christmas Tree tonight at the White House. This Washington tradition is in its 91st year.

Jane Lynch of “Glee” will host the star-studded celebration, which will include performances by Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, The Avett Brothers and other musicians.

Unlike the many trees before it, this year’s 31-foot blue spruce from Colorado has its own Twitter account where it shares daily updates on the events happening around Santa’s Workshop at the Ellipse, and witty thoughts on the challenges of using branches to type on a smartphone.

If you weren’t a lucky lotto winner to receive tickets for tonight’s event, you can watch the entire ceremony live on PBS starting 4:30 p.m.
