The White House announced it will host its second hackathon on June 1 as part of events related to the National Day of Civic Hacking.

According to White House Deputy Director of Online Platform Peter Welsch, participants will focus on building production-ready apps and visualization tools to be featured on the “We the People” website that will be made available under open source license.

The White House will accept applications to attend through April 19.

Prior to the event, White House will open a public repository on GitHub on May 1 where developers can collaborate with other participants and the White House development team.

The White House held its first hackathon on February 22, where 21 participants built apps and visualizations based on the new “We the People” application programming interface. The White House development team drew on feedback from the hackthaon to improve the API and is adding code from its projects to a software development kit.
