Sunday’s sunrise service on the National Mall is one of the largest Easter celebrations in the United States. This year, more than 6,000 worshipers are expected to join locals and tourists for this Washington springtime tradition.

Capital Church of Vienna, Va., hosts the interdenominational service, which is in its 35th year. Pastor Amos Dodge will share a hope-filled message at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

“This is not an event we sponsor, but an assignment we have to our city, nation and world,” says Pastor Dodge.

Memorial steps and Mall grass will serve as church pews. Most guests come dressed casually with blankets and coats. A live orchestra and choir will provide music during the service which begins at 6:30 a.m.
