How DHS views security

2013_07_defenselandscapesquareThe Defense Landscape is a weekly conversation on the national security news of the day.

The Department of Homeland Security has been an early adopter for years: cloud, mobility, agile acquisition.

And as Margie Graves, the agency’s acting CIO, said, “We’ve got the scars to prove it.”

Thursday, Graves shared some of those scars from integrating and securing new technologies at FedScoop’s fifth annual Lowering the Cost of Government with IT conference.

This week on the podcast, we’ll bring your a few of her comments on security and cybersecurity legislation from the event. We’ll also bring you Keith Trippie’s thoughts on security. Trippie is the executive director of the Enterprise System Development Office in the DHS Chief Information Office.

At Thursday’s event, Trippie talked about the move from complete cybersecurity compliance to cybersecurity risk management. It’s a game changer, he said. It encourages continuous monitoring and more agile responses to cyber-threats.
