First Lady Kicks Off Public Service Recognition Week

First Lady Michelle Obama thanked the country’s public service workers in a new video on The White House blog to start the government annual Public Service Recognition Week.

For the past 26 years, the government has used this week as a time to thank professional public servants from 911 dispatchers, police and firefighters, teachers, park rangers and everyone in between.

“Federal public servants may not always be as visible, but they are in every state as well,” Office of Personnel Management Director John Berry wrote on The White House blog. “They focus on national security and law enforcement tasks like protecting our borders; they pursue criminals who cross state lines and care for our veterans. Others make sure our roads and rails are designed and built safely and that our food and water supply is clean.”
