Navy Launches Program for Sailors to Download Technical Manuals

The Department of Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) launched a new program that lets sailors download technical manuals to help solve on board ship software and hardware operating systems instead of being burdened with oversized paper manuals.

The program, named SAILOR (SPAWAR Acquisition Integrated Logistics Online Repository), became available to the fleet on September 15 and is expected to save the Navy “a pretty penny,” said SPAWAR’s Nicole Collins on the Department of Defense’s blog.

“Developed by the Navy’s Information Systems Dominance Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), and originally designed for sailors between the ages of 18 and 30, SAILOR provides a comprehensive interface that includes video streaming capabilities, and offers features such as ‘tech tube,’ similar to You Tube, that allows sailors to download ‘how to’ troubleshooting videos,” Collins wrote.

SAILOR also allows personnel to exchange information with a help desk and through blogs and forums.
