We(ed) the People: New White House Petition Platform Fires Up Marijuana Proponents

2011_09_wethepeople1

The White House launched its “We the People” online petition platform and cannabis advocates are already burning it up.

As of 7:30 p.m. (EST), four of the 9 petitions created pertain to issues involving the legalization of marijuana or hemp. One, “Legalize and Regulate Marijuana in a Manner Similar to Alcohol,” has already received 6,035 signatures, well above the 5,000 needed to get an official response from the “appropriate public policy officials.”

According to the We the People website, The White House “will do our best to respond to petitions that meet this threshold in a timely manner, but it may take a few weeks to issue an official response.”
