A tree lover since childhood, McClellan has bound the beauty and history of Washington’s springtime jubilee into two beautiful hardcovers, The Cherry Blossom Festival, Sakura Celebration and Cherry BlossomsAs the blooms peak this week, we get the scoop with one of the District’s most dedicated pink ladies.

What is your favorite tech gadget? 

My Android smartphone.

What is your favorite event of the festival?

I couldn’t possibly choose just one event! I always make a point to walk around the Tidal Basin at dawn when the trees are blooming.

If you could stroll the Tidal Basin with any Washingtonian, whom would you choose?

How do you avoid tourist traffic when the trees are in bloom?

I take public transportation or walk and allow plenty of extra time.
